McLaren Speedtail Hits 400+ Easily In Final Tests, Making It The Fastest McLaren Ever

After 2 decades, the mighty F1 has been dethroned by the new king in the Ultimate Series: the Mclaren Speedtail.

In the final tests of the McLaren Speedtail development. Testing the top speed wasn't going to be an easy feat for this spaceship. After all, there's not a lot of places where you can do thorough testing on this subject.

So they thought: we'll bring our spaceship to the guys that make spaceships. And so turned to the Kennedy Space Center where the Space Shuttle once landed after another successful mission.

On the 4.5 km long runway they clocked the McLaren Speedtail going 403 km/h in more than 30 runs. This final test gives the green light for the start of production. With the first of 106 deliveries scheduled for February 2020.

‘It’s fitting that the Speedtail’s high-speed test programme concluded with multiple maximum-speed runs at a location so strongly associated with pushing the boundaries of extreme performance and engineering excellence,’ said Andy Palmer, Ultimate Series Vehicle Line Director. ‘The Speedtail is a truly extraordinary car that epitomises McLaren’s pioneering spirit and perfectly illustrates our determination to continue to set new benchmarks for supercar and hypercar performance.’

The Speedtail delivers a combined power output of 1055 hp and 1150 Nm from the 4.0 V8 and electromotors. Combine that into the most aerodynamic efficient McLaren shape ever produced. And you get a 0-300 km/h figure of just 13 seconds. As a reference, the GT 63 S needs just 10 seconds to do a sprint. But by then it's only reached 200 km/h...

We're looking forward to seeing this kind of performance in action.
