GIMS Live: Peugeot 208 Is A Cute Sabertooth Tiger

The Peugeot 208 returns to the compact segment with more sophistication than ever. An electric model is also scheduled to go on sale.

A few weeks after Renault announced their 5th generation of the Renault Clio. Now the new Peugeot 208 faces its new rival during the Geneva Motorshow.

The Peugeot 208 takes clues from the new 508 design with the sabertooth-like headlights. And with the GT-Line it looks better than its ever been. Wheels are available up to 17-inch and the roof can be optioned to be black to contrast the car's body color.

And just like with the 508 the Peugeot 208 shows off its model designation just above the lion in the grille. A nice nod to Peugeot history.

Inside the 208 has been given a massive tech boost. With an all digital dashboard available in 5, 7 and 10-inch the little Peugeot really stands out compared to its competitors. In the interior you'll find a pleasant mix of glossy black surfaces mixed with faux carbon fiber. To finish it off, Peugeot has given the 208 a sporty flat bottom steering wheel.

Power comes from a petrol 1.2L three cilinder engine or a diesel 1.5L four cilinder engine producing either 75, 100 or 130 hp for the petrol version and 100 hp for the diesel. But that's not the most exciting part of the new 208.

It also comes in an all-electric called the e-208. The batteries produce 136 hp with 260 Nm's of instant torque. This takes the car to 100 in a respective 8.1 seconds in sport mode. But that's not really important. What is, is the range the little electric lion gets. With the new WLTP test cycle the car will travel a respectable 340 km.

Prices are yet to be announced but be sure that you'll see this one a lot around the streets.
